DEBBY FRIDAY Details Debut Album 'GOOD LUCK'
She co-produced the LP alongside Holy Fuck's Graham Walsh
GOOD LUCK comes your way on March 24 through Sub Pop. Following the producer's Prism Prize-nominated 2021 single "FOCUS," it's set to arrive alongside a short film co-directed by FRIDAY and Nathan De Paz Habib.
The album was co-produced by the artist and Holy Fuck's Graham Walsh, and mixed at Toronto's recently shuttered Candle Recording. As per press materials, GOOD LUCK is a tour de force in genre fluidity, bringing together such disparities as "Santigold's dub dazzle" and "the MIDI-crush of Death Grips," as well as multidisciplinary influences like Eric Rohmer and Sylvia Plath.
"I have a lower register and speak with vocal fry so I don't know what came over me when I made this track," FRIDAY said of the lead single, which sees her brush off her signature industrial figures in favour of pop poise. "I have never in my life sung like this before and I had no idea I could even make these kinds of sounds with my voice. There's no pitch effects on 'SO HARD TO TELL,' it's all me."
