Myriam Gendron

"The Small Hours"

The record explores the poetry of Dorothy Parker, with Gendron giving a voice to Parker's lyrics, backed by gorgeous fingerpicking on guitar. Working as a copyeditor and book dealer, it's unsurprising that Gendron stumbled across an anthology of Parker's poems.

"Before even understanding the meaning of the words, I heard a song," said Gendron in a statement about the inspiration behind the album. "I flipped through the pages and it just kept happening."

In "The Small Hours," Parker laments sad winter nights, but Gendron's soft guitar and warming vocals should be enough to keep you cozy.

The re-released version of Not So Deep as a Well arrives on March 3 via Mama Bird Recording Co., complete with two new bonus tracks. For now, you can listen to Gendron's musical interpretation of Parker's "The Small Hours" below.
