Fool

Pronounced McGee, shine through on his new Fool EP, subtle changes in production add depth and warmth to his hazy, dream-like sound. Lyrically, his introspection can go so far as feeling claustrophobic, but the edge is mellowed out by the instrumentals, without losing any of its power.
 
Mk.gee is a multi-instrumentalist and writer, and handles everything from writing and recording to production himself. There's an aspect of the music that feels very worn-in and comfortable; this music is not hinged upon having a super-tight and crisp sound, but relies on a looseness that feels effortless and intimate, rather than sloppy.
 
There might be an oversaturation of indie rockers in the vein of Mac Demarco, but on Fool, Mk.gee nails the sound and quality of writing they should be striving for, especially on tracks like "Come On (You Know That I'm A Fool)" and "Suburban Luv." No matter how crowded the scene, there is always room for artists willing to elevate the musicality of their craft, and Mk.gee has proven himself more than capable, and certainly willing.
