Here's the 2024 Polaris Music Prize Long List
Featuring Allison Russell, Tomb Mold, Cindy Lee, Haley Blais and more
This year's long list features 16 first-time nominees, in addition to three past winners (Jeremy Dutcher, KAYTRAMINÉ [Kaytranada], Karkwa) and one past Polaris Heritage Prize recipient (Beverly Glenn-Copeland).
In total, 238 albums were considered for the long list by the Polaris Music Prize's 207-member jury.
The 40-album long list includes efforts by newly minted Exclaim! cover stars the Beaches, and previous cover stars including Allison Russell, BAMBII, Charlotte Cardin, Jeremy Dutcher and TOBi.
Others appearing on the long list include Tomb Mold, Cindy Lee, Elisapie, BIG|BRAVE, La Force, Dominique Fils-Aimé, Super Duty Tough Work, Ducks Ltd., NOBRO, Terra Lightfoot, Sean Leon, TALK, Pelada, LOONY, KEN mode, Helena Deland, Jon McKiel, Population II, myst milano., NYSSA and Corridor.
The long list will soon be whittled down to a 10-album short list, to be unveiled on July 11. From those 10 titles, a winning album will be revealed during the Polaris Gala, taking place September 17 at Massey Hall in Toronto. The chosen Polaris Music Prize winner will be awarded a $50,000 grand prize.
The 2023 Polaris Music Prize was awarded to DEBBY FRIDAY for her album GOOD LUCK.
Past Polaris winners also include Pierre Kwenders (2022), Cadence Weapon (2021), Backxwash (2020), Haviah Mighty (2019), Jeremy Dutcher (2018), Lido Pimienta (2017), Kaytranada (2016), Buffy Sainte-Marie (2015) and Tanya Tagaq (2014).
